Choosing a logo is hard. Quite possibly the hardest part of getting your company off the ground (at least it was for us!). It needs to, in a nutshell, translate what your company actually is and carry the overall esthetic of what your brand will be known for, all in one tiny package.
When we were approached for this particular branding project, we were able to start from the ground up. The first step: developing the name itself. We worked with the client on name possibilities, developing a name that would encompass both copyediting as well as household organizing. We needed the name to stay general enough that it could work for both businesses, but to also hint at what kinds of services the company would offer.
After picking a winner—hooray for Revise Editing Co.!—we got to work on the logo design. The mood board, above, was our jumping-off point, helping to determine the colors, fonts, and other design elements to incorporate into the logo and overall brand identity. After reviewing with the client on what she liked and wasn't the biggest fan of (loved the colors, didn't love the stripes!), we got to work concepting and creating the base logo, providing her with different text and color options to choose from. Narrowing from there, we expanded on the color palette and gave various versions of the final logo. The use of the two bugs, pencil and hanger, were created to help differentiate the two services Revise Editing Co. offers, and the client intends to use them separately on business cards and invoices.
We loved working on this branding project, and we can't wait to see Revise Editing Co. continue to grow in the Des Moines area.
